Six Injured in Transit Bus Accident on McCart Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas

FORT WORTH, TX — A transit bus collision sent six passengers to the hospital in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday, May 16th, 2014, according to a news article from NBC DFW.

Investigators have said that they believe six people were hurt when the city bus on which they were passengers was struck by a vehicle while driving on McCart Avenue around 8:30 Friday morning.

Scene of the Accident

Six people were taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital where they were treated for unspecified injuries.

Police are still trying to determine the cause of the accident.

Commentary:

The news article paints a pretty clear picture of fault on the part of the driver of the car, but lets look at this accident from a fresh perspective. If the article is correct, and the car was turning at the time of the accident, I would be curious to know if the bus was speeding at the time of the crash. What makes me think this? Because you’d have to try pretty hard to not see a bus on the road before a turn. What is more likely is that the driver saw the bus when they were turning, and assumed they had enough time and distance to make the turn. If the bus were speeding, it may have thrown off the timing of the turn and caused the accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
