Commentary:
People may blame the victim in this accident, but they may do so without the proper information. The news report indicates that the truck was hauling steel. Now, I’m not saying this is what has happened here, but is it outside the realm of possibility that the steel was hanging over the back of the truck? We’ve all seen vehicles with their cargo spilling out past the perimeter of the vehicle, and if the cargo was in any way obscuring the brake lights of the tractor-trailer, the driver behind them may not have known he vehicle was slowing or had come to a stop. If this turns out to be the case, the trucking company, or possibly the company responsible for loading the steel could be responsible for the accident.
