Two Injured in Tractor-Trailer vs Bus Accident in Bruceville-Eddy, Texas

BRUCEVILLE-EDDY, TX — Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash between a tractor-trailer and a transit bus in Bruceville-Eddy, Texas on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014, according to a news report from News Channel 25.

Investigators have said that they have reason to believe both a school bus driver and a passenger were hurt when the charter bus they were on was struck by a tractor-trailer from the rear while driving on Interstate 35 sometime Tuesday afternoon.

Scene of the Accident

Two people were taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital after the crash for the treatment of their injuries. It is not clear from the article if the driver of the tractor-trailer was hurt in the collision.

Texas Department of Transportation Officials are currently investigating the crash.

Commentary:

If this article is accurate with the facts surrounding this crash, then the tractor-trailer company is going to be facing a lot of tough questions in the coming days. Whenever a tractor-trailer rear ends another vehicle, I see either a failure to control speed, or failure to maintain a safe following distance. What does this mean? Commercial vehicle drivers are trained extensively in adjusting their following distance based on traffic due to the large stopping distances that tractor-trailer drivers need to stop. If the truck is found to have been speeding or following too closely then the trucking company could be liable for the damages this accident caused.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
