Commentary:
This news article is pretty bare on specific details, but I always advise people to take these kind of articles with a big grain of salt. Accident news articles are based almost entirely on police reports, and contrary to popular belief, these are written by police officers, and not trained accident investigators. At the scene, police are juggling the care of the victims, redirecting traffic, clearing the road, and documenting the details. Needless to say, in this chaos, many details can fall by the wayside. This is why the majority of these police reports are discredited to some degree later on. These reports are not the end-all-be-all final word as far as the investigation goes, but are only part of the grander equation.
