UPDATE: Mario Moreno Killed in Car Accident Outside Bandera, Texas

BANDERA, TX — Two people are dead, and another was seriously hurt in a major accident that happened just outside Bandera, Texas on Thursday, May 8th, 2014, according to a report from My San Antonio.

Authorities have said that they have reason to believe 50-year-old Mario Moreno was killed when the vehicle he was driving crossed into the lanes of oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle head-on while driving on Highway 173.

Scene of the Accident

Emergency responders pronounced Mario Moreno dead on the scene while the driver of the other vehicle, identified as Cody Adams, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later.

The investigation is currently ongoing.

Commentary:

While the news article makes no mention of alcohol whatsoever, the fact that another driver was pursuing the wrong-way driver for a good distance as he drifted from lane to lane leads me to believe that alcohol may be a factor in the crash. If this turns out to be the case, finding out where the driver was drinking before the crash needs to be the next order of business. Why does this matter? Because in Texas, citizens are armed with liquor liability laws that hold bars responsible for when they over-serve their customers and cause an accident. If the authorities discover alcohol was a contributing factor, over-service is a very real possibility.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
