Commentary:
When a news article mentions a commercial vehicle sideways in the road, I am immediately flooded with questions about how it got that way. In all my years of handling commercial vehicle crashes, never once have I seen a vehicle tip, roll, or jackknife sideways that was driving at a speed that was safe for road conditions. Considering trucking companies first line of defense tends to be that the victim failed to avoid the accident, having a truck block the roadway makes this difficult, if not altogether impossible. If one of the vehicles was speeding and blocked the road after losing control, the company behind the offending vehicle could be held responsible for the accident.
