Authorities with the Oregon State Police have said that they think Leslie Overgard was hurt when the Penske moving truck in which she was a passenger was struck head-on by a vehicle after one of the vehicles is believed to have crossed over the median and into oncoming traffic while driving on Highway 22 around 12:45 Friday afternoon.

Scene of the Accident

Authorities took Leslie Overgard to Tillamook Regional Medical center for the treatment of her injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was identified in the news report as David Sherpard, who was hurt in the crash.

Officials expect to release more information at a later date.

Commentary:

You may wonder what the process is for when an accident’s damages total far beyond insurance policy limits. In cases where a motorist demolishes a rare and exotic sports car, destroys a storefront or a building, or totals a commercial vehicle, ambulance or a city bus, the insurance of the accused driver generally wont cover the extent of the damage. This is where what we like to call under-insured-motorist coverage or UIM steps in. Essentially, whoever owned the exotic car, storefront, or otherwise large and costly vehicle would hold a policy that bridges the gap between the offending driver’s liability insurance limits, and the totals of the actual damages.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
