Commentary:
Whenever I see an accident like this, I cant help but feel that it only severs to highlight the need for more robust liquor liability laws in states that do not currently have them. For those that do not already know, liquor liability laws, also known as dram shop laws ensure places like restaurants, bars, taverns, nightclubs, and liquor stores all sell alcohol responsibly. If a person shambles haphazardly into a bar that can barely stand, breath reeking of alcohol, and trouble stringing together a complete sentence, the bartenders and servers are obligated by law to not serve them alcohol. If these bartenders and servers provide him with alcohol despite his intoxication, that bar can be held liable for any accident their customer causes, in addition to the stiff penalties for the driver.
