Tuckerman, AR — An accident between an 18-wheeler and a school bus left two children injured last Thursday. The accident happened on Highway 67 south in Tuckerman, Arkansas.
The bus had stopped and two children were unloading when the 18-wheeler came through the intersection and struck the rear corner of the bus. The two children suffered minor injuries and were taken to Harris Hospital.
The driver of the truck said that he had dropped a can of chewing tobacco beneath his feet and was trying to get it up off the floor.
The bus driver saw the truck coming in the rear view mirror and tried to move the bus as far as he could to the side of the road. Police say that kept the accident from being much worse than it was.
Reports say the other children on the bus were not injured.

Commentary
First, I’d like the say that the bus driver did an amazing job. If it wasn’t for his actions, this accident could have been much worse. Moving on to the accident itself, it seems pretty clear that the driver of the 18-wheeler is at fault. He said that he wasn’t paying attention to the road. The bus was parked at the time of the accident. Hopefully, in a situation like this, where things are so clear cut, the trucking company will step up and cover any damage. Of course, that’s not a given, because with so much money on the line, these trucking companies typically spend their time after an accident trying to figure out how much blame they can shift to the other party. So even in a clear cut case, things aren’t so clear cut. In these situations, I’ve found that it’s never a bad idea to have someone looking after your interests, if only because these situations can be unpredictable.
