Commentary:
Alcohol related accidents are bad to begin with, but when the driver happens to be a police officer, it is only insult to injury. If I were the victim in this accident, I would be very curious as to where the driver was drinking before the accident. If it happens to be a bar, the bar may have over-served their customer, and could be punished right alongside the driver. Unfortunately because bars cannot be thrown in a jail cell alongside a drunk driver, civil action becomes the only remedy. Luckily, many states saw the danger in bars, and the benefit in punishing them for drunk driving accidents. If this bar served the driver too much to drink, they could be liable for the accident if alcohol is discovered to be the cause.
