Newport Beach, CA — Reports indicate that an accident in Newport Beach, California, injured a three-year old child last Thursday. The accident occurred at the Starbucks at Campus Drive and MacArthur Blvd, around 9:30 in the evening.
Johnny Martinez was driving and crashed into the side of the Starbucks. A three-year old was a passenger in the car at the time, and attempted to flee the scene of the accident on foot with the child.
Police found and arrested him a short while later. The child suffered nose and mouth injuries and was taken to Hoag Hospital.
At this time, it’s not clear why Martinez crashed into the Starbucks. No injuries were reported from those inside the coffee shop. Police are still investigating the accident.

Commentary
Of course, there could be a legitimate reason why the driver of the car crashed into the Starbucks. However, if there were, the driver probably would have stayed at the scene to explain what had happened to the authorities, rather than running away with an injured child. People typically flee the scene of an accident because they don’t want people to see what they’ve done. This accident is still being looked into, but I’ll go ahead and venture a guess and say that the driver didn’t have a good reason for running. Reports don’t elaborate on the child’s relationship with the driver. Whatever that relationship turns out to be, the driver has a lot to answer for here.
