UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in this accident as 30-year old Shamon Woods, of Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH, TX — A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of one driver in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014, according to a news article from My Fox DFW.

Authorities from the Fort Worth Police Department currently have reason to believe one person was killed when the vehicle while driving on Loop 820 near the intersection with Sun Valley Drive at around 2:30 Saturday morning.

Scene of the Accident

The driver was ejected from the vehicle while it rolled several times. They were killed in the crash.

Officials from the Fort Worth Police Department are currently investigating the crash.

Commentary:

While the article makes no mention of it, the fact that this accident happened at or around closing time for bars leads me to believe that this accident could be alcohol related. If this turns out to be the case, finding out where the driver was coming from should be the first order of business. Why is this significant information? In the State of Texas, when a person decides to drink at home, they become their own responsibility. When that very same person walks into a bar to drink, they are now to some degree under the care of bartenders and servers, who are obligated to cut off somebody when they become intoxicated. If the bar failed in this duty, they could be held liable for the accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
