Two Killed in Car Accident on Barton Hills Drive in Austin, Texas

AUSTIN, TX — Two people were killed in a major accident that happened in southern Austin on Friday, May 2nd, 2014, according to a news report from KVUE.

Police have said that they have reason to believe that two people died and one was seriously hurt when a vehicle drifted off the road while driving on Barton Hills Drive and collided with a tree while driving on Barton Hills Drive around 11:00 Friday morning.

Scene of the Accident

A young woman and an 18-year-old man were killed in the crash. Another passenger was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital where they were being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Officials expect to release more information about the accident at a later date.

Commentary:

The news article suggests that high-speed may have played a role in this crash, which may leave people wondering where they stand after an accident. In case you did not know, every time you enter a car as a passenger, you enter an unspoken contract with the driver that ensures that driver will not drive recklessly in a way that could cause an accident. If this contract is any way broken, the driver could be liable for the accident for breaching that unspoken contract, but it all depends on how the facts line up and fall into place.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
