Child Killed in Car Accident on Interstate 45 in Texas City, Texas

TEXAS CITY, TX — One child was killed and two more were hurt after a single-vehicle SUV rollover accident that happened in Texas City, Texas on Thursday, April 24th, 2014, according to The Galveston Daily News.

Investigators have said that they believe an unidentified 3-year-old boy was killed when the Chevy Trailblazer he was a passenger in crashed and rolled for reasons unknown while driving on Interstate 45 sometime around noon Thursday.

Scene of the Accident

The child was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later. The other children in the car were last listed in serious condition by hospital staff.

Texas Department of Transportation Officials are currently investigating the accident.

Commentary:

Some people reading this will be very quick to blame the driver of the vehicle, but they would be jumping to conclusions based off a news article that is based of a police report that was written by a policeman that did not witness the accident, only the cleanup and aftermath. This is why most of the police reports from accidents are called into question upon further scrutiny. I’ve seen cases where the information was incomplete to the point of near-nonexistence, or worse yet, completely and factually inaccurate. This is where independent investigation comes in handy. It can add to the current pile of evidence, that could complete or altogether refute the information in a police report.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
