UPDATE: Ricky Yother Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident in Pickens, Georgia

PICKENS, GA – One man has died after a collision with a tractor-trailer that was reported in Pickens County, Georgia on Thursday, April 24th, 2014, according to a report from Fetch Your News.

Police with details from the investigation say that 59-year-old Ricky Yother was killed when the vehicle he was in collided with a dump truck while attempting to turn while driving on Highway 136 at around 6:00 Thursday morning.

Scene of the Accident

Ricky Yother was killed in the crash. He was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders when they arrived. The driver of the dump truck was not made immediately available.

Investigators hope to release their findings at a later date.

Commentary:

People simply dont understand the dangers of turning in front of a vehicle, let alone turning in front of an eighty thousand pound commercial vehicle? What makes this so dangerous? Simply put, it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between a vehicle that is driving 40mph, and a vehicle that is traveling at 70mph when it is driving directly at you. If the driver of the truck was speeding, the driver of the car may have presumed to have enough time and space to turn in front of the truck, if the truck was traveling at a reasonable speed. If police find out the driver was speeding, the trucking company could be liable for the accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
