Representatives from the Waco Police have said that they believe 40-year-old Chad Cotton was killed when the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a Mercury Marquis at around 1:50 Sunday morning.

Scene of the Accident

Chad Cotton was ejected from the bike and was taken by EMS to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he died a few hours after he arrived.

The investigation remains ongoing by officials from local agencies.

Commentary:

Due to the nature of personal injury accidents and the stigma that surrounds them, people tend to be very, very unforgiving when it comes to victims in accidents like this. The think people fail to realize is the difficulty in determining a vehicle’s speed when it is driving in your direction. Police officers even use sophisticated equipment to see speed, so the driver in this situation may have thought that there was enough room to execute the turn, but in reality if the driver was speeding, they may not have had enough time or space, with no way of knowing. Granted, I’m not saying this is what happened because I was not there, but faulting a victim before all the information is on the table is irresponsible at best.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
