Southgate, MI — A man was killed in an accident on Monday, after stepping out of his vehicle to inspect the damage from another accident. The accident took place around 10:45 in the morning, near the intersection of Fort and Orchard Streets.
Authorities report that Lorenzo Fugate was in an accident with a semi-truck when he left his vehicle to inspect the damage. While outside, his vehicle was struck by a passing Ford Ranger. The collision pushed Fugate into the path of the Ranger, which killed him.
Two passersby who had stopped to check on Fugate were also injured in the accident. Fugate’s wife was a passenger in the car, and suffered minor injuries.
The accident is still being investigated.
