Commentary:
While there is always a chance that this driver took the car without permission, these accidents really serve to highlight what can happen if you lend your keys to the wrong person. If somebody you lend your car to happens to be underage, under the influence, or does not have a valid drivers license, you could potentially be held liable for any accident they cause later on down the road. I’ve seen cases where car owners face serious consequences because they gave the keys to somebody they knew had been drinking, and their car was later involved in an accident. Always be careful when lending your car to anybody, because you’re handing over a huge responsibility that people often take for granted.
