TORRANCE, CA — Two people died after a major accident that happened in Torrance, California on Monday, April 21st, 2014, according to a news article from CBS Los Angeles.

Authorities have said that they believe Danielle Murillo was killed when the vehicle he was in crashed into a guard rail while driving on the 101 Freeway around 12:45 in the morning Monday.

Scene of the Accident

Danielle Murillo was killed in the crash, as was Jessica Leffew and Brian Lopez. One other person was seriously hurt in the accident.

Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.

Officials from the California State Police are currently investigating the crash.

Commentary:

Whenever I see accidents like this, I cant help but wonder why other states are not equipped with reasonable liquor liability laws. In Texas, we have a set of laws that hold bars and liquor stores to a higher standard, and open the door for civil action when these laws are violated. Whenever an entrepreneur sets out to open a new bar, nightclub or liquor store, they enter into a contract with the state that essentially says they will serve alcohol responsibly. In exchange for this promise, they are given a license to sell alcohol. If at any point they fail in their duty to sever alcohol responsibly, and a patron of theirs crashes, the bar can be held liable for the accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
