SHALLOWATER, TX — One man was killed in a serious accident that happened in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday, April 19th, 2014, according to a news report from Lubbock Online.
Investigators have said that they believe 50-year-old Lawrence Johnston was killed when the motorcycle he was driving skidded off the road and crashed while driving on Highway 179 around 8:00 in the morning Saturday.

Emergency response teams pronounced Lawrence Johnston dead on the scene when they arrived. No other injuries were detailed in the news report.
Authorities expect to release more information to the public in the coming days.
Commentary:
A lot of people seem to have knee-jerk reactions about single-vehicle accidents and tend to blame the driver when there may be more information that we don’t see in a cursory news article. At some point in our lives, we have all heard about a manufacturer recall, but the inherent problem within these recalls is that quite a large number of accidents of a similar nature have to happen before the manufacturer decides to take action and recall their product. If investigators find that a design flaw in the vehicle caused this accident, the manufacturer may be liable for the accident if the facts line up properly.
