Commentary:
A lot of Texans are woefully unaware of the state’s wonderful liquor liability protections that allow bars and liquor stores to be held liable when their customers cause accidents. Fortunately, Texas legislators saw the danger that bars can pose when they over serve. This is why when any person wishes to open a bar, nightclub, or a beer and liquor store, they must first make a promise to the state to serve and sell alcohol in a manner that does not endanger the public. When a bar serves somebody beyond the point of intoxication, or serves alcohol to somebody who is already intoxicated, that bar can be held liable for ANY accident that their patrons cause. Only when bars are held liable for drunk driving accidents will bars begin to see drunk drivers as a real liability.
