Feeding Hills, MA — A man was put in the hospital after being hit by a woman who was driving while intoxicated. The accident took place on Thursday, in the area of 491 Southwest Street in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts.
Emergency workers arriving on the scene found the man lying on the ground. Some of his injuries were treated on the scene before he was transported to Baystate Medical Center. The car, with the intoxicated woman inside it, was parked nearby.
Authorities have found that the man was walking with his wife when the car drove by and hit him. The woman continued down the road, hitting several nearby objects before stopping.
Local residents say that, despite a posted speed limit of 40 miles per hour, drivers often speed through the area. This, despite a relatively large number of pedestrians walking along the road.
The accident is still being investigated.

Commentary
This is about a responsibility to the community, pure and simple. If someone wants to go out and drink, they have every right in the world to do that, but once you leave, you have a responsibility to those around you not to put them in harm’s way. Driving while intoxicated isn’t living up to that responsibility.
But let’s take drinking out of the equation. Speeding through a residential area in which several people are often seen walking up and down the street also fails to live up to that responsibility. Are you guaranteed to hurt someone when putting yourself in this position? No. We’ve all heard some story about a friend of a friend who was driving when they shouldn’t have been and no one got hurt. That’s not really the point. The point is, the potential for such hurt and damage is so great that even taking the chance isn’t worth it. Unfortunately, that’s a lesson some people don’t learn until it’s too late.
