Commentary:
A lot of people I talk to about accidents have the idea that all the vehicles involved are up-to-date on repairs and are in perfect working order, when this is almost never the case. While this accident is more than likely the fault of the car driver, but there could be more going on than we see in a news article. A tractor-trailers brake lights are controlled by a cable that runs between the cab and the trailer, and is often hanging freely over the road unprotected. If this cable happened to be severed by road debris, if it became disconnected, or if it simply wasn’t connected in the first place the trucking company could be liable for the accident.
