UPDATE: Deshaun Gaither Killed in Car Accident in Arkansas County, Arkansas

ARKANSAS COUNTY, AR — A major crash claimed the life of one man in Arkansas County, Arkansas on Tuesday, April 15th, 2014, according to a new article from Fox 16.

Authorities have said that they believe 35-year-old Deshaun Gaither was killed when the car he was a passenger in crashed while driving on Highway 11 around 8:00 Tuesday evening.

Scene of the Accident

Deshaun Gaither was killed in the crash. The driver and another passenger in the vehicle were taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries.

The investigation is currently being handled by officials from local and state agencies.

Commentary:

Many people would skim this article and immediately blame the driver of the car for the accident, when we have almost no details of the accident investigation. Many single-vehicle accidents I’ve handled have come down to a serious malfunction in the vehicle, or the safety equipment designed to mitigate the cause of a crash failed. Most would dismiss looking at the wreckage of a car accident like this as a waste of time, but there is a tremendous amount of information that can be gained. For instance, I handled an ejection accident where the passenger was supposedly not wearing a seat belt, but investigation discovered that the seat belt failed and left burn marks on the metal clasp that proved otherwise. These are exptremely common accidents, and always worth a second look.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
