Minivan Collides with School Bus in Harris County, TX

Harris County, TX — Officials have reported that no students were injured in a collision between a minivan and a school bus in Harris County, Texas. The accident took place near the intersection of Ella Blvd. and Romano Park Lane, around 2:45 in the afternoon.

The Spring ISD school bus was turning onto Romano Park when the minivan struck it head on.

While students were aboard the bus at the time of the accident, rattled nerves were the extent of their injuries.

The driver of the minivan was taken to a local hospital.  There’s been no word on her condition. Officials are still looking into what caused the accident.

Commentary

There are a few different ways to look at this one because reports aren’t being very clear on exactly what happened. In Texas, it’s illegal for a car to pass a school bus when its lights are flashing and its signage is up. That’s not what happened here, but my point is that it feels like we’re conditioned to at least slow down whenever we approach a school bus on the street. So, it’s possible the person driving the minivan wasn’t paying attention and caused the accident. But reports say the bus was in the middle of a right turn. Pictures show that the minivan collided with the right side of the bus, and that most of the damage to the minivan was concentrated on the front passenger side. Whether or not that changes things, I’m not sure. We would need some more information.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
