BRECKNOCK, PA — One driver is in serious condition after a box truck collision in Brecknock Township, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, April 15th, 2014, according to a news release from the Lancaster Online.

Investigators have said that they believe one woman was seriously hurt when a box truck and a vehicle collided while driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike around 5:00 Tuesday evening.

Commentary:

Many people associate commercial vehicle accidents with large, trucking company conglomerates, when many of these accidents happen the commercial vehicles involved are the only trucks the company has that make local deliveries with largely inexperienced drivers. Often times with small business trucks they are driven far outside their reasonable lifespan to save a few dollars on the bottom line. Tires go bald, fluids leak, belts snap, and power steering can fail just as on typical commuter vehicles. I’ve handled a case where the parking brake had been rigged with a wire coat hanger, and when it failed it caused a serious accident. These types of repairs cost money, and when accidents happen, the cost of repair that the owner saved would then be passed onto the victims.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
