UPDATE: Lakendrick Horn Killed in Alleged Drunk Driving Accident in Preston, Connecticut

PRESTON, CT — One man is dead and another person was seriously hurt in a crash in Preston, Connecticut on Thursday, April 10th, 2014, according to a news report from The Day.

Investigators have said that they have reason to believe Lakendrick Horn was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while waiting for a taxi near the Briookside Cafe.

Scene of the Accident

Emergency responders pronounced Lakendrick Horn dead on the scene when they arrived a short time later. Another person standing nearby Horn was identified in the report as Arnold Feaster, who was taken to a nearby hospital.

The investigation into the accident is being handled by officials from the Connecticut State Police, who expect to release more information about the accident in the coming days.

Commentary:

The fact that this news article mentions a bar should be a red flag to everyone involved. Most assume that an alcohol related accident is identical to your average everyday fender-bender, when they are completely inaccurate. If the driver in any suspected alcohol related accidents is found to have come from a bar, then liquor liability laws need to be considered and examined to find if the bar can hold any liability for the accident. Many people dont know this, but in the State of Texas there are laws that oversee the safe and responsible sale of alcohol, and if a bar is found to have served alcohol to a person who is already drunk, then the bar can be held liable for any accident they get in because they failed to serve him in a responsible manner.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
