One Killed in Car Accident with Pedestrian on Loop 410 in San Antonio, Texas

SAN ANTONIO, TX — One man was killed in a pedestrian accident that happened in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, March 24th, 2014, according to a news report from My San Antonio.

Police have said that they have reason to believe one person was killed when they were struck by a vehicle when they were walking along or trying to cross the street in the 1600 block of Loop 410’s access road around 9:30 in the evening Monday.

Scene of the Accident

The cyclist was taken by paramedics to University Hospital where he died a short time after he arrived. The driver of the vehicle that hit him did not report immediate injury.

San Antonio Police officials are currently handling the crash investigation, and hope to release more information at a later date.

Commentary:

People have some serious misconceptions about pedestrian accidents. Most of the time, I hear the phrase “The pedestrian always has the right-of-way”, which is incorrect. In situations where a vehicle has turned onto the street where the pedestrian was standing and hits them, the driver can be held responsible for the accident for not ensuring they had a clear road to turn onto, but beyond situations like this, and marked crosswalks, the pedestrian tends to be the person without the right-of-way, contrary to popular belief.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
