Vineland, NJ — There was an accident reported at a worksite in Vineland this past Monday (October 19, 2015) that injured a young man. 24-year-old Michael Jones was hurt after another worker driving a forklift accidentally ran over him.
This happened at a worksite off Almond Street, where some affordable housing is being built, called Melrose Court.
Apparently, Michael Jones was walking near a forklift that morning around 8:00 a.m. when the driver, 34-year-old Georgia resident Jose Carlos, accidentally backed over him. He later told the authorities that his view was obstructed.
Jones was badly injured and rushed to a hospital, where he was later said to be in stable condition.
It’s not clear if they worked for the same company.
Map of the Accident
If the two workers here were employed by separate companies, which is common on large construction sites, then it’s possible there may be a negligence-based claim against the company that employed the forklift driver. Normally, labor law in New Jersey doesn’t allow for any type of claim to be filed in a work-related accident case, that’s what workers’ compensation benefits are for, but it’s a different story if the person who caused the accident worked for a separate company.
