Clearwater, FL — A man was hospitalized with serious injuries after an explosion at a Mercedes dealership in Clearwater, Florida. The accident took place at Lokey Mercedes, which is located off of Highway 55, on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.
Local reports don’t name the worker who was hurt in the blast. The only say that he’s a 47-year-old contractor, not an employee of the dealership directly. He was trying to repair a hydraulic lift when the accident happened. The man was using a torch, and some reports say that may have been a contributing factor.
The man was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, although doctors say that they aren’t life-threatening.
Local police are still investigating.

Anytime there’s an accident that involves a piece of machinery, it’s always worthwhile to have that machinery inspected, to make sure that it wasn’t the cause of the crash. If someone was injured as a direct result of a defect or malfunction in the machine, this may add an extra wrinkle to the accident, with liability ultimately falling on the machine’s manufacturer. Obviously, I don’t know if that’s the case in this accident, but I think it deserves to be looked into.
