One Killed in Car Accident at Jospehine and Laurel in New Orleans, Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS, LA — One person died after a two-vehicle accident at an intersection in the St Thomas area of New Orleans, Louisiana on Saturday, February 14th, 2015. Local news reports said that the accident happened at about 8:15 Saturday morning.

An as-of-yet unidentified 40-year-old woman was killed when the car she was driving was struck by a Chevy Trailblazer SUV at the intersection of Laurel and Josephine. Police say that the SUV ran the stop sign and struck the side of the victim’s car.

The woman died of the injuries she sustained in the accident.

The driver of the vehicle was identified in the report as 21-year-old Logan Calhoun, who currently faces charges in connection with the accident.

The New Orleans Police was helping with the accident investigation.

If the police and the news are accurate, and the driver of the SUV did in-fact run the stop sign as the reports suggest, then there probably isn’t too many ways of getting around the driver of the SUV taking the fault in the accident. Any time a vehicle causes an accident in the act of breaking a law or statute, then this is probably considered negligence per-se, where an act is found negligent because it violates a law or statute designed for safety. Then again, this wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen a news report get things wrong if it happened another way.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
