Frank Junction, Co — In early January, a small plane crashed outside of Grand Junction, resulting in the pilot and the passenger being taken to a hospital after they were rescued. Josh Humphries, 30, was identified as the injured passenger in the plane and Mike Burton, 53, was identified as the pilot.
The crash happened on Tuesday evening, January 6, 2015 in an area west of Grand Junction called Glade Part. Humphries and Burton were aboard a small plane that was headed from Telluride to Spanish Fork, UT that when their plan crashed at about 5:30 p.m. in the Glade Park area — which is very close to the state border.
The crash was called into rescue workers, who had to use night vision and equipment to reach the men, which took nearly 6 hours. After they were rescued, Burton was taken to a hospital via airlift for back pain while Humphries was taken to a hospital via snowmobile for other injuries.
More investigation by the FAA is expected here and it’s not clear why the men’s small plane went down.
Update: The “plane” mentioned above has been corrected to be a gyrocopter, which is like a small helicopter.
