Houston, TX — A motorcycle rider was sent to the hospital after being hit by a car in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. The accident took place in a parking lot at the intersection of Primewest Parkway and Park Row Drive.
News reports make it seem as if both drivers may have been part of the same group of friends hanging out in the parking lot. The motorcyclist was doing tricks, riding across the lot with his front tire up, when he was hit by the driver, who was doing doughnuts.
The collision broke both of the motorcyclists legs and gave him a severe head injury. Paramedics arriving on the scene transported him to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Officials expect the man to survive.
The names of both drivers were not released.
Police say they don’t believe alcohol to have been involved in the crash. It’s not clear if any charges will be filed in the matter.

Even though liability in an accident like this is pretty clearly established, many people don’t realize how difficult things can be for motorcyclists to prove their innocence. Unfortunately, many people have a natural bias against motorcyclist, and that can really work against them whenever an accident occurs. Regardless of what actually happened, it’s very easy for the other party to come back and accuse the motorcyclist of reckless driving, and for not paying proper attention to the road. To prove their case, motorcyclists need to collect evidence, and that means an investigation. Unfortunately, police investigations don’t concern themselves withe well-being of a victim. They’re concerned with whether or not any laws were broken. Because of this, private investigations are typically the preferred course of action. The upside to these being that they’re conducted with a victim’s best interests in mind.
