Park Springs, TX — There was an accident in rural Park Springs last Tuesday, which is in between Bridgeport and Bowie, that left a worker with Precinct 2 injured. Police said that Mike McCasland was injured on Tuesday afternoon, December 16, after he was accidentally hit by a large truck.
This happened as McCasland was working along FM 1797, using a maintainer. There was a crew present working on clearing the roads from rocks that day. McCasland apparently stopped and went to pick up a rock in the road, but was hit by a 3/4-ton pickup truck that was in reverse.
The truck’s bumper struck McCasland and he was taken to a hospital with injuries to his head and shoulder. His condition wasn’t serious, though, and he was released soon thereafter being admitted to Wise Regional Health System.

Commentary:
Since this man is an employee of the local government, this is something is classified as a “work-related” accident and will be handled through their own internal workers’ compensation program — legally speaking. Of course, if the truck was owned and operated by some other party, like a contractor or subcontractor, then it’s likely that the injured worker would have a claim against the company that owns that truck. Obviously, I don’t really know all the details here, but this is a place where I can write out my thoughts and give my readers a little insight into Texas Labor Law, among other topics.
