Waverly, Ohio — There was a major accident this past Sunday that claimed the life of two men near Waverly. The accident happened late last Sunday morning, around 10:30 a.m. and the two victims were identified as 30-year old Richard Ford and 49-year old Johnny Sowards.
Police are saying that the accident happened when Ford’s truck swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into Sowards’ pickup truck. Ford had been driving along southbound U.S. 23, just north of Waverly, in his pickup truck while Johnny Sowards had been driving north on U.S. 23 in his own pickup truck.
A short ways north of Waverly, Ford lost control of his pickup truck for unknown reasons and swerved into oncoming traffic – crashing head-on into Sowards’ pickup truck.
The collision killed both Johnny Sowards and Richard Ford, injuring 46-year old Penny Sowards in the process. Police said that another passenger was injured as well, but didn’t specify which vehicle they belonged to.
So far, it’s not very clear what caused Richard Ford to lose control of his truck, but the Ohio State Highway Patrol said they’d look into this further.
