Wiggins, MS — Three people were injured in a plane crash near Wiggins, Mississippi, on Thursday, August 14, 2014. The plane involved in the accident was a 2007 Cessna 602.
According to reports, the plane was experiencing trouble and Jeff Bramblett, the pilot, attempted to land in a field. As the plane came down it clipped a tree, which ripped its tail off and caused it to crash.
In addition to Bramblett, there were two passengers aboard the plane. Jeff Franklin and Joe Mentesara were taken along with Bramblett to Forrest General Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The accident is currently being investigated. The exact cause of the crash in unknown at this point.

A lot of these accidents are caused by pilot error. Although they don’t say for sure, news reports I’ve read about this accident make it seem as if it may have been caused by problems with the engine. If that’s the case — if this accident was caused by an issue with the plane itself — then it’s possible that the manufacturer is going to be held responsible for it. The only thing that might change that is if the owner of the plane had made any big modifications to the engine. Let’s just pretend this was a car. If a driver supes up the engine on his Honda Civic, goes out driving and gets into a wreck, it’ll be the easiest thing in the world for the car manufacturer to say that the changes the driver made voided the car’s warranty, so to speak. Again, there are still a few things we don’t know about this accident, and those involved won’t really be able to chart a way forward until all those questions have been answered.
