Temple, TX — Police officer William Pettyjohn was injured when an out of control vehicle collided with him, throwing him about 20 feet in Temple, Texas, on Thursday, July 3, 2014.
Pettyjohn had just finished making a routine traffic stop and was walking back to his motorcycle when the accident happened. A sedan crashed into a pickup truck, causing both vehicles to skid off-road. The truck hit Pettyjohn’s motorcycle and began to roll. Pettyjohn was hit by the sedan and thrown.
Pettyjohn was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital. The driver and a passenger inside the pickup truck were also taken to a local hospital. Their injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.
Scene of the Accident
News reports have said that the accident was caused by the sedan, which was changing lanes when it struck the pickup truck. If that’s the case, they’re going to be held liable for the accident. These things happen. Unfortunately, people don’t always check their surroundings thoroughly enough and miss vehicles that are right next to them, change lanes, and crash into them. Also unfortunately, these kinds of accidents can balloon out of control very quickly and hurt a lot of people. The driver who caused the accident, then becomes responsible for the damage and injury done to everyone involved.
