UPDATE: Justin Shreckengost Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident in Falls Creek, Pennsylvania

FALLS CREEK, PA — A driver is dead after a tractor-trailer head-on collision in Falls Creek, Pennsylvania on Friday, June 20th, 2014, according to the article published by The Progress.

Investigators believe Justin Shreckengost was killed when the car he was driving is thought to have made an attempt to pass another vehicle when it collided with a tractor-trailer while driving on Interstate 80 on Friday just before 5:00 p.m. One of the vehicles is believed to have erupted into flames after the initial collision.

Scene of the Accident

Emergency responders pronounced Justin Shreckengost dead after the accident. No other injures were mentioned in the report.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the fatal incident.

Any time a fire breaks out in a vehicle after an accident, I always remind people that fires start somewhere, and determining where is not that difficult. Why is this information significant? Because if the vehicle started within the victim’s vehicle, there could be what is known as a products liability claim if a defective part or design flaw caused the fire to erupt. Additionally, tractor-trailers are built with a gas tank mounted on the outside of the vehicle, and if this tank was ruptured in the accident and sparked the fire, the manufacturer of the truck could be liable, but nobody can say for sure until experienced investigators get their hands on the evidence.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
