UPDATE: Michael Inman Killed in Car Accident on Highway 18 in Manila, Arkansas

MANILA, AR — A head on collision left one driver dead and sent another driver to the hospital in Manila, Arkansas on Wednesday, June 18th, 2014, according to the report from KAIT8.

Michael Inman was killed when the car he was driving was thought to have crossed the center median and collided with another vehicle while driving on Highway 18 around 7:00 Wednesday morning.

Scene of the Accident

The coroner that responded to the scene pronounced Michael Inman dead on when they arrived. The driver of the other vehicle was identified in the news report as 38-year-old James Hill, who was taken by helicopter to a Memphis hospital.

The investigation is currently ongoing.

Commentary:

The article in the news this morning clearly indicates one of the drivers is at fault, but basing this kind of opinion on a news article written before any kind of thorough investigation is hasty at best. These news reports are often drafted based on police relases from local blotters, and contrary to popular belief, these are written by police officers, not trained accident forensics experts. These police are worried with clearing the scene, tending to victims, redirecting traffic, and making to their next call on the radio. Things can get lost in the chaos, needless to say.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
