HANCOCK COUNTY, IN –Two construction workers were seriously hurt in a traffic accident that happened in Hancock County, Indiana on Thursday, May 29th, 2014, according to a news report from WISH-TV.
Both Mark Evans and another construction worker were hurt when they were hit by a tractor-trailer when they were removing reflectors on the roadway on Interstate 70 around 1:30 in the afternoon Thursday.

Mark Evans was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital, as was 26-year-old Willie Pittman.
The driver of the tractor trailer was identified in the report as 37 year old Daniel Kebebe. Police think the trucker had swerved to avoid traffic when the vehicles collided.
Investigators from the Indiana State Police expect to release the findings of their investigation at a later date.
Commentary:
Judging from the news article, there could be a number of angles to look at this accident from. On one hand, we have men at work, and I’m wondering how clearly marked the work zone was at the time of the accident. If the area the victims were working was not properly marked, their employer could be facing some hard questions about the accident. On the other hand, we have a tractor-trailer who could not stop to avoid slowed traffic, which tells me a few things. Either the driver was speeding, and did not have the distance required to stop the truck, or at least slow it to the point where an impact could be avoided, or the truck driver was not paying attention to the road, and by the time he looked up, it was too late. In either of these situations, the trucking company could be taking the brunt of the responsibility.
