UPDATE: Adrian Carroll Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Highway 231 in Dothan, Alabama

DOTHAN, AL — One man was killed in a tractor-trailer accident that happened just outside Dothan, Alabama on Monday, May 19th, 2014, according to a news article from WTVY.

Police working with accident investigation teams have said that they have reason to believe that 31-year-old Adrian Carroll was killed after the Chevy 2500 pickup truck he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer while driving on Highway 231 around 3:30 in the afternoon.

Scene of the Accident

Adrian Caroll was killed in the accident, although it is not clear if he died on the scene, or at a nearby hospital later on in the day.

Officials with the Alabama State Police are investigating the accident.

The news article indicates that the vehicle the victim was driving was part of a commercial fleet. I’d be curious to know if this is accurate, because it could tell a lot about the condition of this vehicle. How so? Well, vehicles that are part of a massive fleet owned by a large company have a tendency to be lost in the sheer size of the fleet. Sometimes repairs or maintenance can be forgotten, or in once case I’ve seen, a truck was repaired that was not necessary, while the truck that needed the fix was kept on the road and caused an accident. If you’re vehicle fell into disrepair and caused an accident, you would be held responsible, why should a commercial vehicle company be held to any different standard?

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
