UPDATE: Michael Thompson Injured in Car Accident in Silsbee, Texas

SILSBEE, TX — A head-on collision left one man dead and put another in the hospital in Silsbee, Texas on Sunday, April 20th, 2014, according to a news report from KFDM.

Officials have said that they have reason to believe 48-year-old Michael Thompson was hurt when the vehicle he was driving was struck head-on by a pickup truck that was passing in a no-passing zone while driving on Highway 418 around 9:00 Sunday morning.

Scene of the Accident

Emergency responders transported Michael Thompson to a nearby hospital where he was last listed in serious condition. The driver of the other vehcile was identified in the news report as Jamarcus Myers, who was killed in the crash. The investigation is currently ongoing.

Authorities hope any eyewitnesses that have not yet come forward will do so in an effort to aid investigators in better understanding the nature of the accident.

Commentary:

People have the idea in their heads that just because a news article mentions the fact that the other driver may have made a mistake, that they automatically have a winning case, when this is simply not true. While a fact pattern that corroborates victims stories may help, by no means is it a magic bullet to end the discussion. This is where an independent investigation comes in handy, because often times police get their final reports wrong, which can sway liability against the real victims.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
