Ford Recalling 421,000 Escapes Due to Unintended Acceleration Concern

According to the manufacturer and the NHTSA Ford has issued a recall on approximately 421000 Escape SUVs due to a defect in the cruise control cables. The problem can cause unintended acceleration in the vehicles. Allegedly the problem transpires due to faulty clearance from the cruise control cables due to a past recall. Until parts arrive for the recall Ford has stated owners can take their vehicle to any dealership and have their cruise control disconnected.

Commentary

It is slightly amusing when manufacturers issue voluntary recalls based on a safety issue. You see the NHTSA requires car companies to issue a recall on anything safety-related within five business days of discovery. So this mandatory recall should not be taken lightly especially if the past recall to the vehicle was undertaken.
