Deborah and Kenneth Kennedy both 52 years old were reportedly injured when their pickup truck was involved in a collision with an eastbound train. The accident happened at about 9:00 in the morning.

According to San Antonio TX authorities a driver who may have been under the influence of alcohol crashed into another vehicle injuring three people on July 6 2012. Police said that James Bond 40 was speeding along Old Highway 90 near 42nd Street when he struck the rear of a vehicle injuring the three occupants.

According to San Antonio TX police reports Michael Contreras was listed as injured in a single-vehicle accident on July 13 2012. Sources said that Contreras was driving his pickup truck near the intersection of East Bonner Road and South Flores Street when he lost the brakes in the truck.

Local news reports indicate a young man was severely injured in an accident in Corpus Christi Texas. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. Thursday July 12 when police believe the teenager had just exited a public transit bus near where Airline Road and Cimarron Boulevard meet. The teen was then struck by an SUV suffering critical injuries including head trauma. The unidentified teen was taken to Spohn Memorial Hospital where his status was unknown.

Commentary
The problem with public transit buses is that tailing drivers are immune to those entering and exiting unless it is a school bus with a flashing stop sign. In fact being behind a bus is seen as an inconvenience and drivers will try to pass the bus as soon as possible. This presents a scenario where instead of practicing extra vigilance in regards to exiting passengers drivers are more concerned with getting past the unit. Whether or not this happened here is a question for an independent investigation to answer but we are all aware of the potentially dangerous (and unnecessarily so) situation of embarking and disembarking a public transit vehicle.

Local news reports indicate a man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Amarillo Texas. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Monday July 9 when police believe a pickup truck driver turned in front of the path of a motorcyclist along Georgia Street. 21-year-old Zachary Mills struck the front of the truck and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Commentary
While the news feed seems to paint a favorable picture of liability for the victim it should be noted that negligence will still need to be proven through tangible evidence. This will include the police report taken at the scene eye witness testimony and depositions. Then once liability is proven a meaningful amount of damages should be established. This is especially important if injuries will require rehabilitation or an extended amount of time away from work.

Local authorities in Lufkin TX stated that three people were injured in a two-car accident that happened on June 29 2012. According to police in the area a Honda driven by Dwight Furstenfeld 85 and carrying his wife 71-year old Thelma may have pulled onto US-69 and driven into the path of a pickup truck.

According to local news reports an ATV accident near Port Arthur TX left two people injured on July 4 2012. Sources said that Cody Spell and 31-year old Shelly Sanders were injured when they were riding an all-terrain vehicle along County Road 777 at about 7:00 in the evening.
Spell whose age was not given was allegedly barely responsive when medical officials arrived on the scene. Sanders was also injured but was conscious and responsive. Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and their conditions were not given.
Local authorities in Wichita Falls TX stated that 20-year old Gerardo Gazga and another person were injured in a single-car accident at about 1:00 in the morning on July 5 2012. Sources said that Gazgas blue Ford Mustang was headed along Wenonah Boulevard when he lost control and the car overturned.

UPDATE: The other three people in the Mitsubishi and the third vehicle which was listed as a white Silverado were named. Tony Huffman 53 was said to be the driver of the Silverado and 19-year old Brenda Montoya was listed as the driver of the Mitsubishi. Montoya Huffman and 23-year old Marina Almaze a passenger in the Mitsubishi were all injured with Meza and Mireles.
Local authorities in Odessa TX stated that five people were injured in a three-car accident on July 5 2012. Police reported that two of the injured persons were identified as 23-year old Marcus Meza and 19-year old Robyn Mireles. Allegedly a Mitsubishi was struck by a Dodge pickup truck which sent the two cars into a third vehicle nearby.

A study recently published by the Highway Loss Data Institute suggests new safety features in some higher-end vehicles are indeed working to lower crashes. The three systems tested were collision avoidance systems automatic braking and adaptive headlight systems. The study observed accident claim frequency in vehicles possessing these three safety features. In models from Acura and Mercedes-Benz property damage claims were lowered by 14%. Volvo models equipped with the features reduced claims by 10%. The study did however produce some less than favorable results with lane departure warning systems actually increasing crash claims.
Commentary
This is encouraging news as the price tag for these systems is on the upper end of vehicle options but positive results would seem to justify the costs. While the note about lane departure systems is not on target this particular system is relatively new compared to the others and will need tweaking.
