Mother and Child Severely Injured in Wreck With Driver Who Suffered a Seizure in Santa Ana, CA

Eric Woodward 39 apparently suffered a seizure when his Ford Crown Victoria veered onto a sidewalk and struck a mother and her 4-year-old child that was in a stroller. The mother and child were thrown approximately 20 feet. They were taken to Western Medical Center – Santa Ana. The child was in critical condition. The mother suffered a broken shoulder. The accident took place around 10 a.m. on Wednesday October 20 in the 1200 block of East McFadden Avenue in Santa Ana California. Woodwards mother was a passenger in the Victoria and grabbed the steering wheel when she believed her son was having a grand mal seizure. According to Santa Ana police Captain Anthony Bertagna she overcompensated which caused the car to jump the curb and strike the mother and child. Woodward and his mother were not injured in the accident. Woodward was an unlicensed driver due to his medical condition. Charges have not been filed although Bertagna noted that a lot depends on what happens to the kid.

Negligence that causes injury or harm can occur in any number of ways. It would appear from this news report that the driver of the car was acting negligently in that he was not licensed because of his medical condition. In other words the possibility of an accident occurring due to the occurrence of a seizure was likely high. Its an unfortunate situation for all parties involved but the victims of the accident may consider pursuing legal action against the liable parties and can contact their family attorney to see what legal options may be available to them.

Austin Stewart and Friend Shocked by Downed Power Lines in Dallas, TX

Austin Stewart 14 and an unnamed 11-year-old friend were playing in the North Richland Hills neighborhood of Dallas Texas when they saw a basketball in a culvert. The younger boy went after the ball fell and grabbed a downed power line. Stewart ran over to help and also wound up touching the line. Both children received life-threatening shocks and are currently hospitalized. Oncor has repaired the downed line and is investigating the incident although no details have been released yet. According to Stewarts family the area where the accident happened is not fenced in.

While its appreciated that Oncor has fixed the problem its obviously unfortunate that it had to take a dangerous accident to occur in order for the problem to be addressed. While the news item states that Oncor is making an investigation often the only remedy for such an accident is to have an independent investigation done into the accident in order to ensure that all liable parties are held accountable for their negligence resulting in this accident. By holding a liable party accountable the families that have boys in the hospital could stand to receive compensation that could greatly assist them with medical bills and other incurred damages.

Hyland Recalls Teething Tablets After FDA Detects Potentially Toxic Substance

Parents are recommended to take their child to a doctor if they notice such symptoms occurring. The tablets being recalled are:

Product manufacturers have a legal duty to ensure the safety of their products before releasing them to the public. While this is the case for every product that comes to market one would hope that extensive testing and other failsafes would have prevented such a product like this one made explicitly for children from entering the marketplace.
