Three men hurt in collision involving pickup truck and big rig truck near Ennis, TX.

On Wednesday, May 26, an auto accident near Ennis, TX left three people injured.  Three men were riding in a pickup truck on US 287, when, according to news reports, the pickup truck was involving in a collision with an 18 wheeler.  The reports did not indicate how the accident occurred.  The three men, who were riding in the back of the pickup, were thrown from the vehicle during the collision.  One of the men suffered a head injury and was flown to a hospital in Dallas, TX.  According to police reports, the other two men hurt in the crash were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.  The names and conditions of the victims were not immediately available.  Police are still trying to determine exactly how this accident occurred.

When someone is hurt in an auto accident, it can often be difficult to determine who is at fault.  For instance, in this case, the driver of the 18 wheeler might be to blame if he or she was driving recklessly and caused the accident.  But it might also be the case that a mechanical defect on the 18 wheeler caused the accident, which would make the trucking company liable.  On the other hand, the driver of the pickup truck might have caused the accident.  Drivers are often held liable for injuries sustained by their passengers if they were driving recklessly, so the three injured men might have a lawsuit against the pickup truck driver.  Any number of other factors could have contributed to this accident, but the only way to determine exactly what happened is to conduct a thorough investigation.

The longer you wait, the more difficult and less useful an investigation will be.  Physical evidence is removed from the scene of the accident, witnesses forget important details, and, if other parties are particularly unscrupulous, evidence against them could be altered or destroyed.  In my twenty years of experience with auto accident cases, I have learned that the most important first step for any accident is securing the evidence as quickly as possible.  This is oftentimes the only way to build a strong case and ensure that you are fairly compensated for your injuries.  I wish the victims of this accident a speedy recovery, and I hope they can secure the financial help they need to get back on their feet.
