The American Association for Justice (AAJ) has recently filed a report that concerns safety violations committed by major 18-wheeler companies. The results are frightening. The AAJ found thousands of violations, including overloading trucks, employing untrained drivers, skipping routine safety maintenance and upgrades, and using a salary system designed to encourage speeding and excessive driving hours. A large majority of traffic accidents involving 18-wheelers result from trucking companies putting profits before safety. For instance, the report details an incident involving a driver who was killed when he collided with an 18-wheeler with failed brakes. The brakes had failed because the truck’s driver had tried to fix a broken brake line with some electrical tape and a toothpick. To have the line repaired at a certified mechanic would have taken just a few minutes and cost approximately $12. But ultimately the truck company commended the driver’s thriftiness for a toothpick repair – a repair which ultimately cost an innocent driver his life.
If you are considering filing a lawsuit against a trucking company, you will most likely need the help of an experienced personal injury attorney. Trucking companies are covered by large commercial insurance policies. This simply means that more money is on the line, so these companies will be ruthless in their legal defense. They will employ insurance adjusters, defense attorneys, and accident recreation experts whose sole job is to make sure that you take the fall for the accident. If you want to receive compensation against such overwhelming odds, you are most likely going to need experienced help to get the compensation you deserve.

As a Texas attorney practicing for 20 years, I have litigated all manner of personal injury cases. I use this blog as a place to write opinion / editorial articles on a variety of topics that catch my interest and as a means of sharing news stories relevant to personal injury accidents. I think the overwhelming majority of people are unaware just how common these types of accidents are and I hope this blog raises awareness to rather serious public safety concerns. However, this blog is simply a means for me to share my opinions and I would recommend that anyone who is considering seeking legal counsel should contact their family attorney.
