Polident, Fixodent, and other denture adhesives containing zinc linked to major health hazards
GlaxoSmithKline announced recently that it would discontinue production and distribution of three denture adhesives due to health risks. The affected Poligrip products are Super Poligrip Original, Ultra Fresh and Extra Care. GlaxoSmithKline says it is planning to reformulate the product without zinc. The company is currently fielding multiple lawsuits from consumers that say they suffered nerve and blood injuries from the high level of zinc in some denture adhesives. Glaxo said in a public statement that excessive use of the product over several years "may lead to the development of neurological symptoms and blood problems such as anemia. Neurological symptoms may include numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms and legs, and difficulties with walking and balance." Not all denture adhesives contain zinc though, some brands do offer zinc free alternatives.
When a company manufactures a product for use by the public, they have a legal obligation to ensure their products are safe. Unfortunately, this responsibility is sometimes ignored in favor of larger profits. When this happens, those injured may wish to recover compensation through a personal injury lawsuit. Many times these lawsuits are very complex, and without the help of a Texas product liability attorney, your chances of a successful recovery are almost non-existent. Ultimately, the laws are on your side. With the help of a Dallas lawyer personal injury, you can be sure that those responsible for your loved one's injuries are held accountable.

As a Texas attorney practicing for 20 years, I have litigated all manner of personal injury cases. I use this blog as a place to write opinion / editorial articles on a variety of topics that catch my interest and as a means of sharing news stories relevant to personal injury accidents. I think the overwhelming majority of people are unaware just how common these types of accidents are and I hope this blog raises awareness to rather serious public safety concerns. However, this blog is simply a means for me to share my opinions and I would recommend that anyone who is considering seeking legal counsel should contact their family attorney.
