Phoenix, AZ: Bus and Motorcycle Accident on Fillmore Injures 1

Phoenix, AZ — There was a serious accident between a motorcycle and a bus (possibly a city bus) in Phoenix last Tuesday. Police said that a motorcyclist was badly injured after they were hit by a bus trying to make a left turn at Fillmore Street and 3rd Street.

This was around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, October 27, 2015.

The news didn’t release a lot of details, but a witness to the accident claims that she saw the bus making a left turn when it was hit by a motorcycle. It’s not clear who was at fault.

The man on the motorcycle, who wasn’t named, was badly injured and rushed to a hospital. At the last update, he was in critical condition last week.

The bus driver wasn’t hurt and there were no passengers onboard at the time. This is still being investigated.

Commentary:

I won’t presume to know any “extra” information that wasn’t posted in the news, but generally speaking, vehicles turning left don’t have the right of way — unless they have a green arrow, of course. Since the news didn’t mention anything about this motorcycle running a red light, I’m wondering if this bus driver tried to make a turn without checking to see if any traffic was coming? Or maybe he just wasn’t paying attention that afternoon?

There are endless possibilities to what might’ve caused this, and I think someone ought to at least look into the more obvious ones (like the ones I mentioned) before just blaming this all on the motorcyclist and forgetting about it. There’s a good chance this accident wasn’t his fault.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
