Lansdowne, MD: MTA Bus Accident Injures 3 on Patapsco

Lansdowne, MD — Police said that at least three people were hospitalized about two weeks ago in the Baltimore area after an MTA bus was hit by another vehicle. It appears that a woman, a girl, and an MTA bus driver were all taken to local hospitals in the area on Wednesday (October 14, 2015) after the woman’s vehicle hit the back of an MTA bus.

This was at the Patapsco light rail station at Patapsco & Baltimore Avenue, around 8:00 a.m. that morning.

The news reported that an MTA bus was out of service and was pulling into traffic on Patapsco Avenue when the woman’s vehicle rear-ended it.

The woman driving the SUV and a girl were both taken to a hospital, while the MTA bus driver said he was experiencing chest pains and was taken to a hospital as well. Right now, it’s not clear if the MTA police or the local authorities have completed their investigation here or not.

Commentary:

Sometimes, using specific language is very important because, from the way the news is reporting things, it almost seems as if this woman rear-ended a bus that was simply trying to pull away from the station. However, how do we know that the MTA bus simply pulled into traffic without yielding to the other drivers? My point here is that I can very easily see how the MTA bus driver might bear some liability here, but it’s also possible that the victim in the smaller car was at fault. But if we’re just going by what the news is reporting, it’s a little unclear at best. I wish the reporting was a little more succinct in these accident stories, sometimes.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
